Magnesium and Men's Health

Magnesium and Men's Health

We've talked about how great magnesium is for kids and for women, but what about for men? With Father's Day coming up, I thought it would be a good time to talk about it!
Here's a few things that men benefit from magnesium:
1) Testosterone Production: according to research (see article linked below), magnesium is helpful in the production of free and total testosterone. It can be beneficial for all men, but especially for those who also exercise regularly. Even in older men whose levels have gone down with age, regular magnesium intake has improved testosterone levels.
2) Bone density and Muscle strengthening: When paired with calcium, magnesium is imperative for bone health.
It also helps with the production of IGF-1 and ATP which fuel your cells and help with muscle strengthening and growth! It is an amazing mineral that aids in energy metabolism which helps in strength and performance in exercise.
3) Brain function: According to research, people who have a higher intake of magnesium have higher brain volumes which is associated with a younger brain age. It also boosts serotonin which helps with mood and over all brain health.
4) Sleep: Melatonin production is key for healthy sleep and magnesium has shown to benefit the manufacturing of melatonin in the body. It has been shown to help with insomnia and also restless leg which can keep one up at night!
This is just the tip of the iceberg of the many ways magnesium is imperative for the health of everyone! There are many more ways this essential mineral is beneficial for us. Most adults and children are defficient in magnesium! Magnesium body butter is one way of getting it, I also recommend magnesium chloride baths and a quality magnesium glycinate, malate, or l-threonate supplement!
