Our Ingredients

Magnesium Chloride is an essential key in all my products, thus, the name. Magnesium Chloride is absorbed easily through the skin making it an excellent choice for those who struggle to absorb it orally.

Magnesium chloride is beneficial for so many things aiding in relief from migraines, muscle spasms, aches and pains, constipation, insomnia and so much more. It is truly a fantastic mineral and is helpful for so many different things. Many people are deficient in magnesium and this is a great way to get it in your body.

The magnesium chloride (the chemical compound MgCl2) I use is not manufactured in a lab manually, it is extracted from sea water. After solar extraction from sea water it forms dry, brittle flakes. To make a brine or "oil" it is mixed with water. This is where many misunderstand what Magnesium Chloride oil is...it is not truly an oil and thus, it must either be only mixed with water based products or put the process of emulsification with a safe emulsifier (not beeswax) and a preservative.

Rice Bran Oil?! Isn't that a PUFA (poly unsaturated oil)? Why would you have that in your products??? I've been making products long before the whole avoiding PUFAs in skin care was a thing. I am not knew to the wellness community, and I have been orally avoiding PUFAs as much as I can for years. But there are so many beneficial oils and waxes that can be used for skin and hair care that are poly unsaturated fats that have been used for 100s perhaps 1000s of years.

Rice Bran Oil has been known to help with anti-aging and has anti-inflammatory benefits for the skin. It contains a high amount of the antioxidant gamma oryzanol which helps with blocking UV rays when applied on the skin. It is actually used in my products to help as an effective carrier for the magnesium and essential oils as it helps those ingredients absorb easier into the skin.

I believe God created more than just tallow for our bodies to use in our skin care. Animal fats have to go through a rendering process to be used in skin care products, which is totally acceptable, just as seed and plant oils go through a process to be put into skin care. One is not better than the other, in my opinion, as long as the research and safety is behind the products used.

Extra Virgin coconut oil has been cited for its help with inflammation for years. Because of the antioxidant properties in the oil, it helps stabilize free radicals causing inflammation. It also has possible antibacterial properties as well. It is rich and nourishing, moisturizing the skin.

Free radicals are unstable molecules that can cause damage to cells and contribute to various health issues, including aging, inflammation, and chronic diseases. They are produced naturally in the body as a result of normal metabolic processes, but can also be generated by external factors such as pollution, UV radiation, and unhealthy lifestyle choices.

Fortunately, coconut oil contains a unique combination of antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals and protect the body from their damaging effects. These antioxidants include vitamin E, vitamin A, and polyphenols.

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that helps to protect cell membranes from oxidative stress. It works by scavenging free radicals and preventing them from causing damage to the body's cells. Coconut oil is a rich source of vitamin E, making it an excellent addition to your diet or skincare routine.

Vitamin A is another powerful antioxidant found in coconut oil. It plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin, vision, and immune function. By neutralizing free radicals, vitamin A helps to reduce inflammation and support overall health and well-being.

Polyphenols are a group of plant compounds that have been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil contains several polyphenols, including gallic acid, caffeic acid, and ferulic acid. These compounds work together to protect the body against oxidative stress and promote optimal health.

Avocado oil is another nutrient-rich ingredient in our magnesium body butter. It is another oil very good for combating inflammation. One of the reasons avocado oil is effective in reducing inflammation is its high content of monounsaturated fats. These healthy fats have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce swelling and pain in the body. Additionally, avocado oil contains antioxidants such as vitamin E, which can further combat inflammation by neutralizing free radicals.

Studies have also suggested that avocado oil may help to regulate the production of inflammatory substances in the body. It has been found to inhibit the activity of certain enzymes that contribute to inflammation, potentially providing relief for conditions such as arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.

Furthermore, avocado oil is rich in oleic acid, a type of omega-9 fatty acid. Omega-9 fatty acids have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, helping to reduce the production of inflammatory compounds in the body. By incorporating avocado oil into your diet or skincare routine, you may experience a reduction in inflammation and associated symptoms.

Stearic acid is a widely used ingredient in the skincare industry, known for its emulsifying properties and ability to create stable and luxurious formulations. Our stearic acid is from Mountain Rose Herbs, and is formulated from sustainable palm sources. Some stearic acid is from animal fats or from cotton seed oils.

We use an emulsifying stearic acid to create stable emulsions. Emulsions are mixtures of oil and water that are combined to create a smooth and creamy texture. Palm-derived stearic acid has a high melting point, which helps to stabilize the emulsion and prevent separation. This ensures that the product maintains its consistency and efficacy over time.

In addition to its emulsifying properties, stearic acid from palm also offers excellent moisturizing benefits. It forms a protective barrier on the skin, helping to lock in moisture and prevent transepidermal water loss. This makes it an ideal ingredient for body butters, as it provides deep hydration and nourishment to the skin.

At Magnesium Essentials, we understand the importance of using high-quality ingredients in our products. That's why we source our stearic acid from sustainable palm oil. We believe in supporting ethical and environmentally-friendly practices, while also ensuring that our customers receive the best possible skincare solutions.

Emulsifying wax is a crucial ingredient in many skincare products, including body butters. It plays a vital role in creating stable and effective emulsions, allowing the combination of oil and water-based ingredients.

Emulsifying wax is derived from fatty acids and esters found in plant fats. The extraction process of emulsifying wax involves isolating the fatty acids and esters from plant fats. This is typically done through a combination of heat, pressure, and filtration. The resulting wax is then purified to remove any impurities, ensuring its quality and safety for use in skincare products.

One of the commonly used sources of emulsifying wax is palm oil. Palm oil is obtained from the fruit of the oil palm tree, which is primarily grown in tropical regions. Mountain Rose Herbs, which supplies our emulsifying wax, only gets their palm oil from Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) sources.

Emulsifying wax offers several benefits in skincare formulations. It helps to stabilize emulsions, preventing the separation of oil and water-based ingredients. This allows for a smooth and consistent texture in products like body butters. Emulsifying wax also enhances the absorption of active ingredients into the skin, ensuring their effectiveness.

When it comes to body care products, safety and effectiveness are of utmost importance. That's why Magnesium Essentials uses NeoDefend, a safe, Ecocert preservative that ensures the quality and longevity of our magnesium body butter.

NeoDefend is a preservative that has been carefully formulated to meet the highest safety standards. It is specifically designed to protect products from microbial contamination, ensuring that they remain fresh and safe for use throughout their shelf life. NeoDefend effectively inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeast, and mold, preventing spoilage and extending the shelf life

One of the key advantages of NeoDefend is its safety profile. Unlike traditional preservatives that may contain harmful chemicals, NeoDefend is made from natural and eco-friendly ingredients. It is free from parabens, formaldehyde, and other potentially harmful substances. We understand that our customers want to avoid ingredients that may have adverse effects on their health, which is why we have chosen NeoDefend as our preservative of choice.

We use Essential Oils from both Hopewell Essential Oils and Edens Garden Essential oils. When it comes to essential oils, quality matters. We chose Hopewell because they work with Tisserand Institute to create amazing blends that are effective. They include educational articles and lots of research on their website.

Both Hopewell and Edens Garden are GC/MS tested by third-party experts. They both are conscious about ethically sourced materials. Both companies are committed to providing high quality essential oils that are rigorously tested for purity and safety.

For our baby products, we understand that essential oils, though highly effective and very beneficial, can be too concentrated for their little bodies. We use hydrosols in our Gentle Magnesium Body Butter that still have wonderful botanical benefits, but are safer and gentler than essential oils.

Hydrosol plant extracts are derived from the distillation process of plants. The hydrosols are made up of cellular botanical water, containing hydrophilic compounds that provide distinct characteristics and benefits. Unlike essential oils, hydrosols have unique molecular makeup, resulting in different aromatic profiles.
